Instructor Bio

Michael Kirby was raised in Manassas, Virginia. As a youth he attended and graduated from of Fork Union Military Academy where he was also a member of the National Championship Retan Rifles. As a cadet he was required to study the Martial Arts from age from age 14 to 17 specializing in JKA Karate, but it was also the birth of his interest for all things Bruce Lee and the art of Jeet Kune Do . Those four years at the Academy laid a massive foundation and instilled a warriors passion for the lifetime commitment to the Martial Way which is still unfolding today.

After graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served as a United States Infantry Paratrooper with the infamous 82nd Airborne Division in Fayetteville ,NC. As a paratrooper he served with the 4th Battalion/ 325th “Gold Falcons”.

He attended Florida State University in Tallahassee Florida majoring in Asian Studies , and Japanese Language studies. While there he launched into private instruction with a Master Guru of the Philippine Martial Arts Dr. Victor Ferreros from Cebu, and after 10 years of training was awarded the Instructors Black Belt in the Art of Filipino Kali and Jeet Kune Do. It is also where he met his current BJJ Master Dustin Denes, and after 15 years of following the path of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was awarded the Black belt.

As a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) since 2018 he has been successful as a represented actor, Stunt Performer, and periodically served as personal Bodyguard to A list Actor Laurence Fishburne.
